Helen Gillespie joined CCR in January 2008 as the Director of Compliance & Risk Management with over 30 years’ experience in nursing, compliance, and risk management.
She began her health care career serving in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. Following nursing school, she joined Community General Osteopathic Hospital (Harrisburg, PA) in 1978 and served in a variety of positions including ER staff nurse, staff educator, nurse recruiter and occupational health nurse. In 1995, she joined The PMA Group, an insurance carrier recognized for exceptional workers’ compensation services. She continues to work clinically as a staff nurse in a VA based urgent care practice.
Following six years working in the insurance and case management arena, she began her career in senior living services as the Director of Loss Prevention for American HealthCare. Over the next five years, she developed and took responsibility for the risk management program as the Director of Risk Management.
Helen received her nursing degrees from Harrisburg Area Community College and Millersville University of Pennsylvania as well as a master’s degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Administration from St. Francis College of Pennsylvania. While a student at Millersville, she was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the US Health & Human Services (HHS) in the Secretary’s Award for Innovations in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
She is a member of the Virginia Health Care Association (VHCA), the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), and the Virginia Chapter of ASHRM. She is a contributing author to ASHRM’s Pearls for Long Term & Continuing Care and also for Policies & Procedures. She has served on several committees for the VHCA, ASHRM, and VASHRM. She volunteers with the Virginia Medical Reserve Corps which is dedicated to support ongoing public health initiatives and assist during emergencies throughout Virginia.
