Celebrating National Public Health Week
Celebrating National Public Health Week: Our Commitment to Community Wellness Starts Here
Each year, during the first full week of April, we join the nation in observing National Public Health Week. This is a time to recognize the vital role that public health plays in our lives and to champion the health of all communities.
At Commonwealth Care of Roanoke (CCR), this week holds a special significance. We believe that public health is not just a government initiative or a statistical report; it is the daily practice of excellence within our twelve health and rehabilitation centers throughout Virginia.
A Mission Rooted in Prevention and Care
Our goal is to help improve the lives of those entrusted to our care and inspire peace of mind. That mission is deeply aligned with the core tenets of public health: prevention, protection, and promotion of well-being.
We see the principles of public health active every day within our service lines:
-
Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care: By focusing on active recovery, personalized therapy plans, and mobility, we prevent complications from chronic diseases and injuries, ensuring our residents maintain the highest possible quality of life.
-
Memory Care: By providing specialized, dignified care in safe, responsive environments, we support the unique cognitive and emotional public health needs of seniors living with dementia.
-
Respite Care: By offering short-term relief to caregivers, we support the public health and mental well-being of the broader family unit in our local Virginia neighbors.
Our Dynamic Public Health Workforce
Public health is powered by people. At Abingdon, Dulles, Potomac Falls, and every CCR center, our workforce is our greatest asset. Our multi-disciplinary teams are empowered everyday to make a difference:
-
Our Skilled Nursing Staff: They are the frontline defense against infection, champions of preventative screenings, and monitors of chronic condition stability.
-
Our Dietary and Nutritional Services: They understand that health starts with nourishment, creating personalized menus that support immune health and vitality.
-
Our Environmental and Life Safety Teams: They maintain the foundations of public health—sanitation, safety, and a clean environment—making our centers truly feel like home.
Responsive to the Needs of Virginia
Being “Responsive” is one of our core CCR values. This means listening to our communities and evolving our practices to meet their needs. National Public Health Week reminds us that our duty extends beyond our doors; it is about strengthening the entire Virginia healthcare landscape.
Through our Service Excellence Initiative, we are committed to providing the kind of dedicated, high-quality care that inspires peace of mind for families, knowing that their loved ones are in a place where community well-being is not just a concept—it is our calling.
This National Public Health Week, we thank our staff, our residents, and their families for making CCR a cornerstone of community health in Virginia.
