The Virginia Health Care Association-Virginia Center for Assisted Living (VHCA-VCAL) has awarded Charles Rehnborg, Regional Director of Operations for Commonwealth Care of Roanoke (CCR), the prestigious James G. Dunton Distinguished Service Award for Lifetime Achievement. This honor, named after Jim Dunton, former VHCA Executive Director, is presented to individuals who have reached the pinnacle of their profession through dedication to excellence, innovation, and service in Virginia’s long-term care sector.

Charles Rehnborg has been a vital part of CCR since April 2010, bringing with him over 35 years of experience in Long Term Care Administration. Throughout his career, Charles has been recognized as a leader committed to enhancing the quality of care for residents while providing invaluable guidance and support to his team. His tenure at CCR has been marked by a consistent drive to expand the scope and impact of the company’s operations across the state.

“Charles was and has continued to be a very structured executive who adheres to policy and procedure and helps people understand the value of structure,” said David Tucker, President of CCR. “He has mentored dozens of individuals and helped develop health care executives throughout his career. For 42 years, Charles has done all that has been asked of him in addition to what he asks of himself. He is an integrity-filled individual.”

Rehnborg’s influence in long-term care extends far beyond his role at CCR. He has been instrumental in shaping the culture of care within the company, continuously striving to raise standards and improve outcomes for residents. His leadership has fostered a spirit of collaboration and innovation that has had a lasting effect on caregivers and administrators alike.

Reflecting on his recognition, Charles said, “It’s an honor and privilege to be recognized in this way. The most rewarding part of my 42-year career is seeing young leaders that I have coached succeed in their leadership.”

Throughout his career, Rehnborg has worked tirelessly to support the mission of long-term care and has been a strong advocate for the needs of Virginia’s aging population. His recognition by VHCA-VCAL highlights his decades-long commitment to excellence and his vision for a more compassionate and responsive long-term care system.

Rehnborg was recognized at the annual VHCA-VCAL Awards Banquet, where his achievements were celebrated by peers, colleagues, and leaders from across the state.
